Raymarine Axiom 7 Fish Finder Review

by

Axium 7

The Axiom 7 by Raymarine is versatile and loaded with all the right features including built-in Wi-Fi, Navonics charts and a Raymarine app that allows you to control your device from your smartphone. This is one of the fastest models on the market, thanks to the quad-core processor. Its speed, combined with its rugged touchscreen display and Real Vision 3D sonar, allows you to quickly and easily identify fish, hazards, and structures in the water, save waypoints and view thousands of maps of rivers and lakes all over the country.

Our Verdict: You’ll be hard-pressed to find another model this accurate and versatile. While it may not be the most beginner-friendly device on the market, it’s definitely one of the most feature-packed. The Axiom is a fish finder that’s designed more for the serious angler in need of a device that allows for more power, waypoint customization, and improved accuracy. This isn’t a model designed for amateurs, instead, it’s the perfect choice for the serious angler who loves exploring uncharted, underfished waters, and those in need of a model that’s highly accurate, durable, and designed for heavy-duty use.

Overview and Features

If you’re looking for a serious fish finder, one that you can rely on in a variety of water and weather conditions, then your search is over. This model offers more memory compared to other fish finders in this price range, which allows you to store more waypoints, tracks, and routes. Additionally, the 3D Real Vision sonar provides a three-dimensional view of the action going on under your boat. The view of the underwater environment can be customized by zooming in or out, rotating the view, or by adjusting resolution settings in order to help you clearly view the structures your boat passes over.

  • Navionics charts
  • Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Micro SD card reader
  • Can save up to 10,000 waypoints
  • Seven-inch display

Transducer

While the manufacturer doesn’t provide information regarding the frequency at which the sonar operates, it does show us that the transducer’s beam angle is at one hundred and eighty degrees, which means it provides quite a bit of coverage.

This is an all in one transducer that combines high-frequency CHIRP, down vision, and side vision, with real vision 3D and classic 2D viewing, all in one transducer. The RV 100 is a new type of transducer that’s gyro-stabilized in order to compensate for the movement of the boat. The added stabilization ensures you’ll enjoy realistic, clear, 3D images. The transducer also comes with a water temperature sensor and a transom mount.

Navigation

This model is equipped with a seventy-two channel GLONASS/GPS receiver, which is able to update the position of the vessel ten times per second. Because of the faster processor, the movement of the boat on the display will appear without any freezes or jumps. The GPS is also able to calculate the precise speed of the boat.

Maps

Only the best fish finders come with Navionics charts for Canada and the US. These charts cover over twenty-thousand inland lakes in Canada and the US. The chart program also comes with a variety of important features including tide information depth, depth shading, deep water color, and fishing range. This device is also compatible with Navionics charts for South and Central America, and Lighthouse Coastal Vector charts.

Waypoints

Axium 7

This model can record up to ten thousand waypoints, providing a variety of icons you can choose from so you can customize each waypoint you mark. You can gather up to two hundred waypoints per group. The program also has track and route functions. This means you have the ability to create up to a total of one hundred and fifty routes total, with two hundred and fifty waypoints for each route. You can record up to sixteen tracks, with a total of ten thousand track points for each track.

Display

The seven-inch display features LED backlighting, with a pixel rating of 800×400. This is a multitouch style display. The device also comes with the Lighthouse 3 operating system. This system provides a beginner-friendly user interface. You can easily pin the main app to the start page for fast access. Or, you can create a split-screen so you can use a variety of apps at the same time.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Pros

  • Seven-inch color display
  • Micro SD slot
  • Wi-Fi enabled
  • Comes with 20,000 maps
  • Can save up to 10,000 waypoints
  • 3D real vision sonar

Raymarine Vs. Humminbird HELIX 7

The Helix 7 is a great device for the newbie angler in need of a reliable fish finder. Learning how to read a hummingbird fish finder is a more intuitive experience than using the Axiom. The competition also comes with a seven-inch display and allows you to choose from two display modes. In terms of extra information, you can view turbulence and water temp, water depth, and even boat speed. However, the Raymarine model is more versatile, provides more coverage in terms of inland waters, and allows you to save several waypoints and routes for your future excursions. If you’re looking for a device that’s more beginner and budget-friendly, then I recommend the Humminbird Helix 7. Serious anglers who want a fish finder with more memory and customization options should stick with the Axiom.
